Funding for Play With Your Food meals

The Play With Your Food meal idea is 100% free to replicate through the OpenSeat platform — hosts can self-fund or ask guests to pay for any meals that they hold. However, for a limited period from 21 July 2023, a lump sum of funding (R2000) will be available to successful applicants for hosting the meal in their community.

Supported by LEGO Foundation, ChangeX is launching a R1,800,000 Community Play Fund to support communities across the South Africa to start proven Learning through Play projects.
Who should apply for funding
There are two main criteria:
Those with child or family-focused experience, whether teachers, occupational therapists, ECD professionals, or anyone else with extensive experience and investment in the wellbeing and education of children, especially in relation to their parents or primary caregivers.
While no specific community is the focus, hosts with access to networks of parents and children across multiple different communities are encouraged to apply, i.e. those of different races, ethnicities, languages, socioeconomic status, and (dis)ability.
How to apply through ChangeX
Go to the Play With Your Food idea page on the ChangeX website here
Follow the prompt to ‘Start’ the idea. This will involve registering on the ChangeX platform.
This will trigger an application process in which you provide the necessary details to ChangeX motivating why you should receive funding. You have up to 30 days to complete this — but we recommend you complete the requirements as soon as possible. Funding is allocated on a rolling basis — and if you leave it late, the funding may have been depleted.
How funding through ChangeX works
If you application is successful, you will immediately receive 70% of the promised funds from ChangeX (R1400) prior to hosting a Play With Your Food meal. In addition to this, you will receive a customised hosting package from OpenSeat, which we courier to you once you discuss your meal ideas with us. After you have hosted the event and uploaded event media and feedback to us and the ChangeX team, you will receive the remainder from ChangeX (R600).
